Inserts are used in structural assemblies, such as forgings, castings and machined components where repeated bolt assembly and removal could jeopardize the integrity of tapped threads in a less durable parent material.
These inserts act as a hardened thread “liner” to prevent wear and protect expensive housings, cases, or gearboxes from thread damage. Inserts are also often used to repair damaged threads in housings, and deliver performance and durability superior to original stock designs.
Processed to strict government requirements, PTP Ring Locked and Key Locking Inserts withstand multiple assembly / disassembly cycles without appreciable wear, and are available with through or internal thread locking features to enhance fastener retention and security.
PTP Ring Locked Inserts have a serrated collar and are installed in specially prepared, tapped holes in the parent material. Once installed to the proper depth, a serrated lock ring is driven over the serrated insert collar to complete the installation and prevent the insert from rotating or backing out.
PTP Key Locking Inserts have machined lateral slots and employ preassembled keys to generate the locking mechanism. Once installed to the proper depth in specially prepared tapped holes in the parent material, the keys are driven into the mating threads to create a permanent installation and prevent the insert from rotating or backing out.
Ring and Key Locking Inserts are produced in a wide variety of materials to MS, and other specifications. All inserts are available in a wide range of sizes and styles in standard configurations or with through or internal thread locking features. Additionally, PTP can manufacture to customer-specific designs, requirements and plating finishes.
